Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Hallmark Ornaments Series

Hallmark started two different series of Harley Davidson Motorcycles in 1999. The full-size ornament series started with the Heritage Springer while the miniature series started with the Electra-Glide. Both series are sculpted by Don Palmiter in die-cast metal and feature amazing detail. This series seems to have grown stronger in popularity with collectors each year. We noticed a lot of collectors coming to pick up past issues of this series last year and the 2006 FLHR Road King is sought after as much as any of them.

The 2002 miniature model 1958 FL Duo Glide was hard to find in the year of production and has a high resale value as well as the first in the series.

Hallmark added several items of interest to Harley fans as well as the motorcycles themselves. In 2000, they produced the Harley Big Twin Evolution Engine which features movement and light. The pistons move and the spark plugs light. Also, in that same year, an ornament was made of the famous Harley Bar & Shield. Hallmark has also produced two Harley Barbie Biker ornaments, one in classic Harley Biker dress and one riding the bike itself. These were produced in 2000 and 2001.
A couple of new items were added to the mix in 2008. In 2008 you could find a Harley Davidson Motorcycle store which includes a miniature ornament FL Duo-Glide as well as “Jolly Rider” which is Santa Claus in a Harley Jacket. The motorcycle this year is the 2008 XL 1200N Sportster, and the miniature is a 2002 VRSCA V-Rod.

In 2010, two different bikes were made, the first was a 2009 Softail Cross Bones and then a special edition 2009 Tri-Glide Ultra Classic.  Two motorcycles were also made in each year from 2013 though 2016.  Some of the more popular bikes were the 1936 Harley Davidson El made in 2013 and the 1942 Harley Davidson WLA from 2014.  The last bike in the series was made in 2017 and was the 1968 FLH Electra Glide.  This piece had production issue and is in short supply.

In other Harley items there was a Snowy Rider snowman in 2012 that resembles Senior from Orange County Choppers.  There is also a Harley Hog in 2014.

Beauty of Birds Hallmark Ornaments Series

2005 Northern Cardinal Hallmark Ornament

This is a beautiful series which started in 2005 with the Northern Cardinal. Each bird is designed by Hallmark Keepsake Artist Edythe Kegrize and sculpted by LaDene Votruba. Although the Cardinal seemed to be left over in large amounts following Christmas in 2005, the price started to escalate quickly when the 2006 #2 Black-Capped Chickadee was released. The Chickadee is highly detailed and is a lovely addition to your holiday decorations.

By 2007, when the Blue Jay was released, the Cardinal was becoming somewhat hard to find and was one of the most sought after pieces by collectors during the 2007 Christmas season. The Blue Jay was a great addition to this great series for a number of reasons. It adds a lot of color and Hallmark has never done a Blue Jay prior to this ornament. They have previously done a Cardinal and Chickadee in other series such as Holiday Wildlife (1982-1988).

The 2008 Goldfinch is a lovely addition for this year and the series continues to increase in popularity and value. The 2006 Chickadee has doubled its secondary market value from 2009.

In 2010 Hallmark produced a limited edition Lady Cardinal to compliment the original Cardinal from 2005.  In 2011 Hallmark produced a beautiful Oriole.  That same year they made a limited edition Lady Oriole.  Since that year Hallmark made a bird each year and made a corresponding female version of that year's bird.  In addition to the yearly birds Hallmark has also made special edition birds for the Keepsake Ornament Collector's Convention which occurs on odd years in Kansas City.  These special KOC Event birds are some of the most valuable birds in the series.  The First Scarlet Tanager from 2011 sells for over $500 on the secondary market.  There are other special KOC birds that have been released to Club members only as well.  There is also a Beautiful Birdhouses series and a Brilliant Butterflies series that go well with the Beauty of Birds series.  In addition to the full size line there is also a miniature collection of the Beauty of Birds miniatures designed for a table top tree.

If you have not started collecting this series, it truly makes a wonderful addition to your tree. Happy Collecting. Shop The Ornament Shop for all you Hallmark Christmas Ornaments.

Hallmark Ornaments Holiday Open House

Next weekend, November 8-10, is Hallmark Ornaments Holiday Open House. In addition to two more Hallmark ornaments coming out that weekend, the stores will have special sales on boxed cards and wrapping paper.

The new ornaments are the Merry Carolers Trio which is a replica of the Caroling Snowmen plush item, and the North Pole Countdown Tabletop. Hallmark announced it is also doing a re-release of this first in the Caroling Snowmen set which plays “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.

In addition to the Disney wireless band which has three pieces available so far, Hallmark also has four Disney characters in plush called “Nutcracker Sweets”. Each has a candy décor in their outfit and plays songs from “The Nutcracker”. They are on sale during the Holiday Open House for $14.95 (regularly $19.95).

This is one of the fun events available for Hallmark Ornament collectors. There isn’t the rush of trying to find your limited collections pieces. You can more leisurely check out the new items and most stores at least in our area really make an event of it and provide cookies or other snacks.

One of the chains around our town asks customers to bring in canned goods which are donated to a local charitable food drive so your shopping event can be helpful to others as well as fun.

As October draws to a close, enjoy these upcoming festive months spending time with family and friends.

Happy Hallmarking.

Football Legends Hallmark Ornaments

Football Legends Hallmark Series Page

Are you ready for some football? It’s the first weekend for pro football and I hope your favorite team did well.

The Hallmark ornaments series Football Legends started in 1995 and has produced many favorites to hang on your tree. The Hallmark ornament series started with NFL great, Joe Montana from the San Francisco Forty-Niners and then decided to produce a limited piece of Joe Montana in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform since he had recently traded teams. Word was the Hallmark thought only people in Kansas City would be interested in such a piece so very few were made. In reality, many Joe Montana fans wanted the ornament in both varieties and the search was on.

This Hallmark ornament series in heavily slanted toward the quarterback position with 14 of the 19 being NFL quarterbacks. An early variation was Emmitt Smith from the Dallas Cowboys which has been a popular piece on the secondary market. He also went on to win a stint on “Dancing with the Stars”. Last year’s Hallmark ornament in the series was Michael Oher which people also know from the hit movie about his life called “The Blind Side” .

Several of the ornaments have been done in more than one uniform similar to the original Joe Montana. Peyton Manning was done in both the home and away jersey for the Indianapolis Colts and now plays for the Denver Broncos. Ben Roethlisberger was produced as a special edition Hallmark Ornament in 2009 where Hallmark simply added a Super Bowl patch to the uniform of the original 2007 ornament. The great Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu possibly known as much for his hair as football was also done in home and away jerseys as well.

The Hallmark ornaments in this series have had many extras as well as the series pieces. Steve Young of the 49ers was the first extra which appeared in 2001, along with Brett Favre who finally retired after changing his mind for several years.

This year in 2013, Hallmark ornaments has devoted 7 ornaments in the line to the NFL. Along with the series piece, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, they have Joe Theisman, James Harrison, and 2 each of Marcus Allen and Shannon Sharpe. Enjoy the season. Sky's the Limit Hallmark Ornaments

Sky's the Limit Hallmark Ornaments Series Page

In 1997, Hallmark Ornaments started a very popular airplane series with collectors called Sky’s the Limit. The first airplane in the series was the legendary Kitty Hawk flown by Orville and Wilbur Wright, followed in 1998 by the 1917 Curtiss Jenny.

Another famous plane in the Hallmark Ornament series is the Spirit of St Louis (#4) which was the single engine plane flown solo by Charles Lindbergh in 1927 from New York to Paris. The next plane in the series is the Gee Bee R-1 Sportster and is the most sought after of the series.

In 2001, Hallmark created a miniature set of the Sky’s the Limit which only ran for 5 years and duplicated the first five of the full size set. The miniature size ornaments are approximately 1 ½ inches across. They also had an airplane hangar in 2001 called “Flying School” which makes a nice set with the miniature planes. The hangar is made of tin.

The series has included three Cessna aircraft as well as the yellow Staggerwing (#6) . Many of the planes have been red, but in keeping with Christmas colors, the 2005 (#9) airplane was the 1931 Laird Super Solution and is the only one done so far in green.

The plane this year is #13 in the Hallmark Ornament series and again features a Gee Bee plane – the Super Sportster Model Z and is Yellow and Black in color. We will have to wait and see if it is as popular with collectors as the previous one. In addition to the Sky's the Limit series Hallmark created a line of larger planes called Legends in Flight, which are larger and more display pieces. Happy Flying.
